Keratoma – Calluses – Magpie Eyes
A keratoma (clavus) is often a painful, inward-growing callus (thickening of the skin). The callus is formed as a natural response to extreme local pressure and friction. Keratoma’s are usually hard and round in shape, with a dark color in the center. Keratoma’s can be very painful because they put pressure on other structures in the foot. Keratoma’s are also called calluses or magpie eyes.
With a Zlippo slipper or sandal, the pressure or friction on the corn is reduced or removed. This reduces or disappears the pain. In combination with a treatment during the pedicure and adapted insoles in the shoes, corns can disappear completely.
